[Census Year 1841, Parish High Church, Edinburgh, Ref.685.1, Enum Book 77, Page 2, Address - 429 Lawnmarket].
[Note: scans of birth records for Thomas Dunn and Mary Bell Dunn are available].

The census indicates that Marion was born about 1791, outside of the county [of Midlothian]. The record of her marriage to John Dunn indicates that her father, John, was a farmer in Clickhimin in Lauder parish [Berwickshire], and died before 1829. The record of Marion's marriage to Alexander Spears provides the additional information that she was residing in Lauder in 1812. Alexander and Marion's second son, traditionally named after the mother's father in Scotland, was named John, lending additional support to John as Marion's father's name. These facts support the 1790 birth cited above as being the right Marion. Perhaps further research on the Isabella Murray living with Marion and John Dunn in 1841 could lead to more clues, she's quite possibly a niece or cousin. There is also an Alex Murray who witnessed the 1835 delayed record of the 1814 birth of Adam Spears.
